So last night, while we were all minding our business and not thinking about the Super Bowl at all, news broke that Rihanna had pulled the ultimate boss move and turned down the Halftime Show. (FYI, Maroon 5 will be performing in 2019.) Obviously that's a huge opportunity to pass on considering the likes of Beyoncé, Lady Gaga, and Michael and Janet Jackson have all performed during the halftime, but Rihanna has her reason
Reportedly, she said "no thanks" to the coveted set because she doesn't agree with how the NFL has treated Colin Kaepernick, the former player who's currently involved in a lawsuit with the NFL for kneeling during the national anthem. Kaepernick is out of the NFL, after having been a free agent for two years and not being signed to a new team.
This is clearly devastating news for RiRi fans the world over and—unsurprisingly—Twitter is very divided right now. Of course, her Navy fans are super impressed by her solidarity:
But even though there are some disapproving critics, the majority of Twitter appears to be proud and supportive of Rihanna's decision to reject the offer and stand up for what she believes in.
If you're devastated about missing a televised RiRi concert, there's still hope because maybe she'll just do her own live set on another channel during halftime?! So we can all decide who we really want to watch?! Just a thought, Rihanna! Putting it out into the universe! Please get back in that studio and start rehearsing! 🙏
